Abstract

This study is analytical in nature, as its objective was to determine the psychological repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic on the population of Mazatlán. To this end, a 71-item questionnaire was created to gather information on disruptions to daily life and the level of distress experienced by Mazatlán residents during 2020. The results showed that 62% of the evaluated population experienced mild psychological impact, while 23% reported moderate impact, and the remaining 15% presented severe psychological distress. Among the most common symptoms identified were those associated with depression, suggesting a significant effect on the participants' mental health. Somatic symptoms, on the other hand, were the least prevalent. These findings demonstrate the need for psychological support strategies and intervention programs focused on depression to address the emotional consequences of the pandemic in this community
