Abstract

University entrepreneurship poses a challenge for higher education institutions in Mexico, where practical skills and entrepreneurial attitudes do not always keep pace with theoretical training. This study addresses the issue of the uneven development of entrepreneurial competencies among students in business and administration programs, comparing the University of Sonora (UNISON) and the Vizcaya University of the Americas, Mexicali campus. The objective was to analyze skills, knowledge, and attitudes toward entrepreneurship, considering dimensions such as adaptability, initiative, self-confidence, and risk-taking ability. The research employed a quantitative, descriptive, and comparative approach using a 21-item questionnaire with a Likert scale, validated with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.987, administered to 66 students from both institutions. The results show that UNISON’s Accounting students possess a more consolidated entrepreneurial profile, while Vizcaya’s Business Administration students exhibit greater variability in their responses. It is concluded that the educational model and institutional experience significantly influence the development of entrepreneurial competencies, highlighting the need to strengthen the practice of entrepreneurship as a cross-cutting theme in higher education
